The Story Behind Bark & Bevy’s

Throw Me Out! bar

The Story

The bar was inspired by my Uncle Rich Connell — a journalist, a mentor, and the life of every gathering. He loved family above all else, and he had one unforgettable tradition: asking to be “thrown out” of a bar. With a grin, a raised glass, and a generous tip, it was never about trouble — it was about joy, laughter, and making memories together.

Uncle Rich wasn’t just my uncle; he was my role model and the steady voice that shaped my path more than once. He carried so much empathy, kindness, and humor that you always felt better just being around him. Even after years of seeing the hardest parts of the world through his work as a journalist, with us he was light, laughter, and love.

Some of my happiest memories are tied to him — from road trips and amusement parks to quiet moments where he showed up just to make sure we were okay. He had a way of turning ordinary days into lifelong memories. When my world felt uncertain, he was the one who steadied it.

Though he left too soon, his spirit lives on in every story told, every toast raised, and every laugh that echoes in this place. Bark & Bevy is my way of carrying forward the warmth, connection, and joy he gave so freely — a place where everyone belongs, and where the best memories are still waiting to be made. Come on in and hear why he was thrown out of so many bars!
